Manning's Coronavirus Response
think globally, act locally
We’d like to thank our customers for supporting our outreach efforts in aid of communities affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Here’s how you’ve helped.
Supporting Island Harvest food bank
Manning committed to donate $1 for each book sold through during the month of April to Island Harvest, a food pantry serving the community near our home base in Long Island, NY. Your purchases raised $23,744 that went directly to support this local organization. Coronavirus posed a double burden on Long Island. As the need for assistance was increasing rapidly, the regular food donations Island Harvest relies on stopped due to safety concerns, requiring them to purchase the food they distribute. Island Harvest reports that Manning’s donation based on your purchases will provide a week of food for 950 families. Thank you!
Help with upskilling
Manning books offer a great first step into technical areas like programming, web design, and data science. To help those looking to improve job security during this crisis by adding technical skills, we’re making a collection of books free to access through our online liveBook platform. They’ll be available to read in the browser by any registered user until May 30.
Hello World! Programming for kids
Many children are home from school during the Coronavirus outbreak. To help make that time as productive as possible, the eBook version of Hello World! Computer Programming for kids and other beginners, Third Edition will be free through May 30.
This award-winning bestseller by father and son team Warren and Carter Sande is a great way to introduce young readers to the world of computer programming.
Do what you can
Many developers and other technical professionals have had an easier time adapting to the restrictions of the Coronavirus outbreak. If you are among the fortunate ones who are not experiencing significant economic impacts, we urge you to find ways to help those around you.
Thanks, and keep reading!
